Finding cheap fashion for working moms is easiest during the late winter months. While the mall is empty and retailers are literally giving away their leftover fall and winter fashions, capitalize on the “End of Season Sales” and replenish your wardrobe with the basics for a great price. Here are some tips for your bargain shopping :
Look for those staple pieces that will work all year round
Retailers have a habit of marking up prices by 200% to 300% when at regular price!! You don’t have to splurge on these items when they are basics that are always in stock. Look for neutral colored items:
Don’t fret about sizes! With the discount you’re getting at this time of year, it’s worth it to buy the item in a size or more larger, then bring the item to your tailor. You really should be bringing all your clothes to your tailor anyways to get the perfect fit with all your clothes.
Look for quality not quantity
By “cheap,” I mean affordable. Just because everything is half off doesn’t mean you need to take half the store with you. Remember, you’re looking for those basic pieces that will carry you into spring, and right back to the next new year. Read the wash tag labels, and look for items made with natural fibres such as cotton, merino wool, and cashmere. They will last a lot longer giving you more for your money.
Avoid buying season specific fabrics.
There is no use buying a pair of suede boots now with two months left to spring. Suede is mainly a Fall/Winter specific fabric. Look for items with smooth surfaces and minimal texture, and avoid suede, corduroy, velvet or anything that looks like that green shiny blouse you wore on Christmas day.
