Be body image positive by dedicating a day, a couple hours or even 30 minutes to your body for being such an awesome place to live. Gratitude is the quality of being grateful or thankful (Dictionary.com) and according to Psychology Today, studies show that gratitude can increase your well-being and happiness.
Use this guide to help you create your own Thank You Thursday ritual.
Turn off the lights and light a candle. Put on your favorite track and lock yourself in your room. Take 10 – 15 minutes to relax and get your mind settled.
Look in the mirror at each of the following body parts and say “Thank You.” Tell that body part why you’re thankful.
For example, “Thank you Nose for having hairs in your nostrils to purify the air I breathe in from dust. Thank you for allowing me to breathe, which helps me to live. What would I do without you!”
Lie down, kneel down or assume any posture of prayer, and begin to thank God for creating you and sustaining your body and life. Meditate on the following body image quotes from the Bible. You can also say a prayer too.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:26-27)
Then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. (Genesis 2:7)
Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:14)
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19 -20)
Journal any insights, positive emotions and feelings that you have experienced. Give thanks again for that experience. Live in light of your enlightenment and continue to be body image positive.
