If changing your body is a priority over other things such as family, relationships and personal development, then it may that your image has some influence in these areas. Remember your family, career and life successes don’t hang on how you look. Aim to lose weight for health purposes only.
Constantly looking at other people and wishing you had their height or body shape is very destructive to yourself. Learn to appreciate other people’s unique body shape as well as your own.
Not wanting to pose for pictures or be the center of attention could be a sign of poor body image. Many people think they ‘just don’t like being in pictures,’ but the underlying reason is the’re not comfortable with there image and the don’t want other people to have permanent copies of their imperfect body.
Poor body image and negative self-talk is a vicious cycle. When you talk negatively about your body, it will feed your poor body image. And as your poor body image gets worse, you will continue to talk down on yourself.
Countless women I work with will tell me that they hate shopping because of their weight, or they don’t like their shape because it doesn’t fit into the current clothing styles and trends. If you avoid shopping or buying much needed clothing for your image because you don’t like how your body looks in them this gives you another clue that you probably have a poor body image.
Is it a ritual for you to stand on the scale after you take a shower? Why are you going on the scale? You don’t need to know your body weight to get you off to a good start every day. The only time you really need to weigh yourself is at the doctors office when you’re doing a checkup. If you’re losing weight for health reasons then great! Workout, stay active and when a couple of consistent weeks of exercise has past (say 4 – 6 weeks) then gauge your success. But honestly, there really is no reason for you to have a scale. If it bothers you, throw it away!
Have you been engage for 3 years because you keep putting of the ceremony to lose weight? Or maybe you want to experience that sabbatical or trip of a lifetime, but you “need to lose weight first” so you can look cute in you bikini? If you’re putting off life for your body then this is a sign of a negative self-image.
Friend: “Wow! That dress looks great on you!”
You: “Oh stop it!”
Friend: “No really! You look amazing!”
You: “Really? You think so?”
If this sounds something like you then you probably have a negative body image. You should be like, “Ya girl! You know it! I know how to work this dress!”
This is an obvious! Skipping meals, eating too much junk food or not eating at all are all obvious signs of a poor body image.
If you look in the mirror and all you can see is your parts or how big or small they are then that’s definitely a problem. When you look in the mirror, you should see wonderful you and smile. You should be thankful for all the blessings of life and that you are privileged to experience them. If a negative image is the first and last thing on your mind then get some help.
